Read on for a complete guide on how to tackle your SEO in 2025.
You’ve spent months building your website. You’ve invested in professional photos, crafted your perfect product descriptions and counted down until launch day. But here you are, weeks , months or sometimes years later, wondering why your phone isn’t ringing and your inbox isn’t filling with enquiries.
Your website isn’t broken – it’s just invisible.
I’m Kelly Rayduta, and over the past 10 years of running Accentuate Agency, I’ve helped hundreds of small businesses solve this exact problem. The solution is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).
This guide will show you exactly what to do for SEO in 2025.
Think of Google as the world’s biggest librarian. When someone searches for “dentist near me” or “best wedding photographer,” Google has milliseconds to sort through billions of websites and decide which 10 to show first.
Your website might be amazing, but if Google’s librarian doesn’t understand what you do or who you help, you’ll be filed away on a dusty back shelf where no-one will find you.
Here’s what most business owners don’t realise: getting found on Google is about showing off your years of experience and expertise in a way that is easy for your dream clients, and also LLM’s (I.e. Chat GPT) to understand.
Before we dive into the strategy of work in SEO in 2025, let me share what I’ve learned from working with over 200 small businesses:
What doesn’t work anymore:
What works better than ever:
Google’s job is simple: show people the most helpful answer to their question. If you can consistently be that helpful answer, Google will reward you with visibility.
What this means for your business:
A good strategy especially if you’re just getting started with SEO is to ‘go after’ keywords that are less competitive. For example, high commercial intent keywords like ‘business consultant’ is an extremely competitive keyword so instead focus on a specific problem that you solve. Tailor it to a specific service you offer (business consultant + service), or think of specific industries you work with (business consultant + industry). Focus your content on specifics and provide case studies to showcase your expertise and experience. This will give you E-E-A-T points!
Your action plan:
Imagine someone finds your website on Google, clicks through and then… waits… and waits. After 3 seconds of loading, they give up and click back to Google to try the next result.
Google notices this. It’s called a “bounce,” and it tells Google your website wasn’t helpful for that search. Too many bounces, and Google stops showing your site to people.
The two things that matter most:
Your website needs to load in under 3 seconds. This is just good user experience. No-one is going to wait for your website to load, the only time people wait is when they’re queuing for Taylor Swift tickets, right?
Test your website speed now. Go to Google PageSpeed Insights and enter your website address. If your score is below 70, then you have some work to do here on your technical SEO.
Common speed fixes:
Make sure your website navigation is easy for anyone to follow. If your dream client lands on your home page they should quickly understand:
Think about your website as a sat nav, it doesn’t stop guiding you half way through your journey so neither should your website.
Quick audit of your navigation:
This is where most small businesses get overwhelmed, but it’s simpler than you think.
Google looks for signals that other people trust your expertise. The strongest signal is when other reputable websites link to your content because they found it helpful.
You can’t buy trust and you can’t fake it. You have to earn it.
One of our London SEO clients created a simple PDF guide: “The Ultimate Guide to Finding Your Perfect Office Space in London” It was based on real conversations, visits and understanding of the area from many years of experience.
Local architects, solicitors and even council planning officers started linking to this guide because it was genuinely helpful. These high-quality links boosted their rankings across their entire website.
Focus on being helpful first. The links and recognition follow naturally.
Let’s address the elephant in the room. Yes, AI can help you create content faster. But here’s what I’ve learned from watching businesses try to shortcut their way to SEO success:
AI content can be helpful, but only if you make it yours.
Google isn’t anti-AI – it’s anti-unhelpful content. Whether written by AI or humans, thin, generic content that doesn’t add value will struggle to rank.
After years of SEO audits, I see the same mistakes repeatedly:
Mistake 1 – Trying to be everything to everyone
“We’re an accountancy for all businesses” won’t rank. “We help aesthetics clinics get more Coolsculpting patients” will.
Mistake 2 – Forgetting about local search
If you serve local customers, 46% of all searches are looking for local information. Make sure your Google Business Profile is complete and you’re listed in local directories.
Mistake 3 – Focusing on vanity metrics
Ranking #1 for “business consultant” means nothing if those visitors don’t become customers. Focus on ranking for terms your ideal customers actually search for. Review Google Analytics 4 and see what the data is telling you about how well your pages are performing and if you’re not sure how, we’re building a course ‘AI meets SEO‘ which will teach you how to use AI to help you analyse SEO data.
Mistake 4: Inconsistent effort
SEO isn’t a one-time project. It’s like going to the gym – you need to keep showing up to see results.
Month 1: Foundation
Month 2: Content
Month 3: Authority
Based on our client data, here’s what realistic progress looks like:
Months 1-3: You’ll start seeing your website appear in Google Search Console for more search terms. Traffic may increase slowly.
Months 3-6: You should start ranking on page 2-3 for your target terms. Phone calls and enquiries may start increasing.
Months 6-12: With consistent effort, you should achieve several page 1 rankings for terms your customers actually search for.
Important: SEO success is about getting the right people to find you. We’d rather have our clients rank #3 for a term their ideal customers search for than #1 for a term nobody cares about.
Think of SEO like this – your dream client has just landed on your website, they feel like you (aka your website/shop window) is speaking directly to them, answering all of the questions they had about what you do, reminding them how important it is that they solve this problem and why you’re the best person that can help them with this. THAT is what good SEO looks like.
Companies generating leads online today are those that solve real problems, for real people.
Make sure your website works well technically (if you don’t do this, it’s like building a house on the beach) then start creating content that’s super helpful. There’s some more things in the SEO mix (of course) but if you remember these 2 things you’ll be heading in the right direction.
Be patient. Be consistent. The results will follow.
